Scottish Refugee Council is committed to assisting asylum seekers and refugees to settle into life in Scotland. Our Communities Team works with grass-roots groups led by people with lived-experience of seeking protection in Scotland, as well as groups set up to welcome New Scots to local communities. We also deliver programmes for community members from refugee communities. We’re looking for a volunteer to provide admin and finance support for events and workshops across different projects in the team.
What will I be doing?
Duties will be varied but will include
- Contacting community members to discuss access requirements and organising cash for any expenses required
- Issuing cash expenses to community members, and recording and monitoring cash expenditure
- Organising and preparing materials for workshops and events
- Welcoming and supporting community participants at our in-person and online sessions and events
- Taking simple meeting notes during workshops and events
- Supporting the Communities Team to keep our shared folders and documents up to date
- Participating in Team meetings
What skills and qualities do I need?
- Good communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Good interpersonal skills
- An ability to manage cash expenses and recording and monitoring expenditure
- A good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
- A strong ability to show empathy with the needs of refugees and asylum seekers
- An ability to work autonomously
- A willingness to occasionally travel outside of Glasgow to attend community events in nearby towns and on occasional weekends
- Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness
