Multi-Cultural Family Base (MCFB) is a social work organisation focused on early intervention, supporting children and families before challenges become entrenched. We help during key transitions, such as the birth of a child, starting primary school, or moving to Edinburgh as new migrants. Our work addresses identity, loss, displacement, and trauma, fostering belonging and purpose for children. We partner with families, listening to their perspectives and adapting our approach to meet their needs.
MCFB is passionate about diversity, working with a wide range of communities, including those considered ‘hard-to-reach.’ We challenge stereotypes and prejudices, advocating for families facing discrimination and promoting a society that values difference. As Gandhi said, “No culture can survive if it attempts to be exclusive.”
We value listening to children’s views and recognise the importance of play in fostering health and wellbeing. Group work is central to our approach, helping children and adults find shared experiences, belonging, and community.
