Piano trio Artisan Ensemble will be performing Messiaen’s “Quartet for the End of Time” to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day.
The event will take place at Stockbridge Church, 7b Saxe Coburg St, Edinburgh EH3 5BN, at 6pm on January 27th 2020. There is a suggested donation of £20, with all proceeds to Scottish Refugee Council. Our fundraising team will be at the event to discuss the work that we do.
Artisan Ensemble said:
“We feel that performing this work on this day is particularly significant in these times the world finds itself at present. The piece was composed while Messiaen himself was imprisoned in a prison camp in Stalag VIII A, Goerlitz, during the Second World War – it is an amazingly powerful, challenging and simultaneously beautiful work that combines inspirations from birdsong, rhythmic patterns and the Book of Revelation.
We will be joined by Jean Johnson on clarinet, and Alex Taylor on piano for this occasion.
This event will be an opportunity to celebrate the diversity and welcoming nature of Edinburgh and Scotland. The chosen venue, Stockbridge Church who have donated the venue and welcomes people of all faiths, cultures and nationalities.”
We look forward to seeing you there!
