Introduction to working with interpreters

Overview: 

Are you working with interpreters to provide a quality service to asylum seekers and refugees? This course will help you build the knowledge, skills and confidence required to work effectively with spoken language interpreters. This course looks at confidentiality, professional boundaries, good practice and planning for an interpreted session. You will learn about the roles and responsibilities of interpreters and service providers and how to ensure a person-centred approach for your clients.

By the end of the course you will be able to: 

• Understand the roles and responsibilities of interpreters and service providers
• Understand the rights of the client – confidentiality, professional boundaries, advocacy and advice
• Know what to consider when planning for an interpreted session
• Feel confident to manage the interpreting dynamic as a service provider

Who is this course for? 

This is an introductory course for practitioners from the statutory and third sector who use interpreters either occasionally or frequently in their day-to-day work.
