Alvina is a human rights activist who has a passion for improving living conditions and the treatment of people marginalised in society. She is the current Executive Secretary of the UK Chapter of Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR) Zimbabwe. Through ROHR she is involved in campaigns to end human rights violations and violence against women and girls in her home country, Zimbabwe.
She has experience working with vulnerable migrant and BAME groups. As a mother, Alvina has first-hand insight into the challenges faced by migrant mothers in the UK and has extensive knowledge of the asylum process. Alvina has over 15 years’ experience in the Healthcare sector and is an active volunteer with several charitable organisations including: Amma Birth Companions; SHAWN(Sharper-Her African Women’s Network; MORE (Migrants Organising for Rights and Empowerment); and a Voices Network Ambassador – among their civil engagements.
Alvina brings an array of attributes and knowledge that will help shape Scottish Refugee Council policies for service improvement and progressive change.
