Kurdish Women Community Group aims to reduce isolation and promote the integration of asylum-seeking and refugee women, particularly those from Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Iran. This peer support group meets weekly at Kingsway Health and Wellbeing Centre.
We provide a platform for women to come together, share information, discuss issues that matter to them, receive mutual support, and learn more about their host community. Guest speakers from various services are invited to raise awareness of the local support and services available.
The group organises social and educational activities to promote health and wellbeing while reducing isolation. Members are encouraged to take on voluntary roles, such as helping to organise activities or joining the management committee, to develop new skills and build confidence. We also run informal, basic English classes for members with little or no English-speaking ability.
