The first Scottish screening of 2021 film On our Doorstep will take place at Cameo Picturehouse, Edinburgh, on Wednesday 27th September.
The film will be followed by a Q&A with director Thomas Laurance, alongside some of our team and community members.

About On our Doorstep.
On our Doorstep follows the grassroots movement that sprung up to support people displaced in the Calais Jungle, before its demolition in October 2016. Ordinary civilians were able to provide aid to 10,000 people where NGOs could not, and two governments would not.
Volunteers, often young and relatively inexperienced, but with a shared sense of responsibility, worked tirelessly to improve the living conditions of refugees in Northern France; only to find themselves in the middle of a political race to the bottom, dealing with emotional turmoil, ethical dilemmas, and the eventual destruction of the space they’d created.
The film recognises the ordinary civilians supporting people who have fled conflict and persecution, and does not shy away from asking difficult questions – whether the volunteers achieved their aims, and whether the needs of refugee communities were met. Across the world, whether at hostile borders, saving people at sea, or in local communities, ordinary people are stepping up and finding ways to support people seeking refuge. This film recognises the huge challenges faced, but also the solidarity and hope this can provide, and how at times this support can really be the difference between life and death.
