As Volunteers’ Week begins and Refugee Festival Scotland kicks-off next week, we’re celebrating the incredible people helping to bring the festival to life. Every year, we’re truly inspired by the generosity, energy and commitment of our volunteers.

We asked a few of this year’s festival volunteers why they got involved and what the festival means to them:

Sadia, festival ambassador:

“I’m honoured to be one of the festival’s ambassadors. My work, including my role as ambassador, centres around campaigning to improve the asylum system. I don’t want anyone else to experience what I went through.”

Mussab, volunteer festival photographer:

“I believe in using my photography to give back to the community that welcomed me. It’s a way to amplify the stories, voices, and cultures of people who are too often overlooked.”

Amy, festival volunteer:

“I’ve always been interested in refugee experiences from a political perspective, but volunteering for the festival is an opportunity to learn and understand on a more human level.”

Mariana, festival volunteer:

“I’ve been working with refugees and people seeking asylum for the past 10 years, and I see the festival as a wonderful way to celebrate the contributions of diverse communities, cultures, and people.”

To every volunteer who supports Refugee Festival Scotland – and those who give their time to Scottish Refugee Council day in, day out – thank you. Your kindness and commitment are truly appreciated. 🧡

Refugee Festival Scotland 2025 is made possible with support from the National Lottery through Creative Scotland, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, Glasgow City Heritage Trust, and Flutter UKIs Cash4Clubs programme (delivered in partnership with Sported). Many thanks to all our generous funders.
