It would be hard not to notice our vibrant visuals for Refugee Festival Scotland which makes its online debut in June. Our festival design this year has been created by talented Syrian artist Mousa AlNana who is based in Glasgow. Here Mousa gives us some insight into what inspired his design for the festival.

“When refugees leave their countries and resettle in a new place, they want to be part of their new community and to rebuild their lives and their futures. That’s what inspired me to make a design that captured unity, and that we all can be part of something really strong and beautiful.

“You can see in the design that the hands are in different shades of colour. This is to represent the diversity and the richness of the human race, and how our differences make us complete. The hands are working together and helping to build the design itself. The different elements in the design represent how we human beings can be a force for good if we work together.

“I used positive vibrant colors, hoping that would leave optimistic happy thoughts when refugees are mentioned, and replace the negative sad thoughts that are usually associated with refugees and their ability to contribute to any community.

“I hope this festival brings love and support to us all.”
