About this role?

Refugee Festival Scotland is an annual Scotland-wide programme of arts, culture, educational, heritage and sporting events coordinated by Scottish Refugee Council. Every summer the festival brings people from different backgrounds together to celebrate the contribution refugees make to life in Scotland and the welcome offered by local communities.

We would like to build a buzz around Refugee Festival Scotland 2024 and make it as welcoming and successful as possible. Digital content plays a key part in this, documenting events as they happen, and sharing a flavour of the festival on our website and social media channels.

This role would suit someone who is studying (or has an interest in) marketing, journalism or communications, and is looking for some hands-on experience.

What will I be doing?

  • Compile ‘What’s On’ roundups for each day of the festival
  • Draft list blogs eg ‘5 events for foodies’, ’10 family friendly events’, ‘6 events for art lovers’
  • Create social media content to help build excitement and anticipation

Tasks during the Festival

  • Attend an agreed number of festival events, including World Refugee Day on 20 June
  • Capture photos and video clips to share on social media
  • Create social media content – including reels and Instagram stories – highlighting key festival events and activities

What skills or qualities do I need?

  • You must be a great writer with excellent communications skills
  • Experience of creating and sharing varied and engaging content on social media
  • A creative thinker who can come up with original ideas
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and create quality content within a very tight timeframe
  • An interest in arts and community events
  • Ability to work with a range of different people

What do I get out of it?

  • The opportunity to gain valuable digital marketing experience
  • Your content will be seen by thousands of people
  • Attend exciting events and be part of a dynamic team
  • Meet new people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences
