Scottish Refugee Council is committed to assisting asylum seekers and refugees to settle into life in Scotland.
The Policy and Public Affairs team in SRC is focused on developing policies to influence both Holyrood and Westminster to create a more welcoming Scotland and the United Kingdom. Currently, we are developing our policy priorities for the upcoming 2026 Scottish Parliamentary Elections. As a volunteer, you will support the Policy and Public Affairs team in its core aim of influencing political parties, policy makers and the Scottish Government ahead of and beyond the 2026 Scottish Parliamentary Election.
What will I be doing?
Duties will be varied but will include:
- Working with the Policy Officer (Devolved) to research policy positions
- Project work such as taking the existing policy priority outlines, researching and drafting them into policy position briefings for use in influencing the 2026 Scottish Parliamentary Elections
- Assisting with producing policy responses
- Assisting with producing policy briefings
What skills or qualities do I need?
This post will require somebody who has:
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written
- Empathy with the needs of asylum seekers and refugees
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness
- An understanding of Equal Opportunities
- An understanding of the importance of confidentiality
