Coordinated by Scottish Refugee Council, Refugee Festival Scotland is an annual Scotland-wide programme of arts, cultural, educational, heritage and sport events that brings refugee and local communities together and celebrates the contribution refugees make to life in Scotland and the welcome offered by local people.

This year the theme for Refugee Festival Scotland is Milestones.

We are presenting a special anniversary edition, marking 25 years of Refugee Festival Scotland, Scottish Refugee Council’s 40th, and inviting celebrations of milestones and cultural richness in communities across Scotland.  Everyone is welcome to take part!

We would like to develop a buzz around Refugee Festival Scotland 2025 and make it as welcoming and successful as possible. Photography is a key part of this, documenting the events as they happen, and bringing a taste of the festival to people who are not able to make it to all the events. We are looking for photography that is aimed at a predominantly online audience.

What will I be doing?

  • Attending Refugee Festival Scotland events on behalf of Scottish Refugee Council
  • Documenting events through photography that is designed to make online audiences take notice of content on our website and social media channels
  • Ensuring people are aware that their photo is being taken and explaining what images will be used for

What skills or qualities do I need?

  • Photography skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • An interest in arts events and community events
  • Ability to work with a range of different people including asylum seekers and refugees
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment and adhere to deadlines
  • Reliability, punctuality and enthusiasm

What do I get out of it?

  • The opportunity to welcome people, including asylum seekers and refugees to Scotland and the festival
  • The opportunity to attend exciting, celebratory events and be part of a dynamic team
  • The chance to meet new people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences
  • Training on working with Asylum Seekers and Refugees
  • A Refugee Festival Scotland 2025 t-shirt!
