Welcome to our new podcast!

The HOPE podcast was co-created by a group of radio presenters, podcast hosts, filmmakers and creatives with lived experience of seeking refuge.

The aim of the “HOPE ” podcast is to amplify the voices and stories of people with lived experiences of the refugee/ asylum process in Scotland.

Through interviews, discussions, and personal narratives, the podcast aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by new Scots, as well as their resilience and contributions to Scottish society.

Last year, we were part of the Steering Group for Voices: The Community Story, a project by the Scottish Council on Archives, which collected oral histories of migration from around Scotland. Through this process, we learned audio editing skills. Creating a podcast felt like the obvious next step.

We brought together a small group of people to bring the podcast to life. We first met in March 2023 for an initial chat, then worked together to design the structure of the podcast. The group also came up with the name: HOPE, which ties in with the theme of this year’s Refugee Festival Scotland.

We then began recording episodes, with thanks to Barclays Eagle Labs for the use of their fantastic podcast suite.

Thank you to Anne, Ibrahim, Comfort, Arij, Manar and Fakhriya for your time and efforts in getting this project off the ground.
