Outreach services
Dundee International Women's Centre aims to make refugee women feel part of the community and more at home.
By coming to our centre, many women find out about local amenities for the first time and discover places that have something to offer them and their families.
We hold various information sessions. So far these have included legal issues around car safety, school attendance, reporting hate crime, child health, and positive parenting.
We know from experience that improved language skills lead to increased confidence in engaging with other services. Many of the women have taken up the learning opportunities we offer, in particular, English for Speakers of Second Languages (ESOL). Tutors from Dundee and Angus College also teach more conversational or formal English at our centre.
We are also a Hate Crime Third Party Reporting Centre. LINK: https://www.scotland.police.uk/contact-us/hate-crime-and-third-party-reporting/third-party-reporting-centres).
The project is funded by the tampon tax.
