Home-Start volunteers help families with young children deal with whatever life throws at them. We support parents as they learn to cope, improve their confidence and build better lives for their children. Home-Start delivers the Getting It Right for Every Child (GIRFEC) approach and is ideally placed to help the Scottish Government and others build stronger communities and brighter futures for all Scotland’s children. Home-Start knows that well-trained volunteers complement the early years workforce, significantly contributing to the support families receive and enabling them to access services when they are most needed. Home-Start was founded in 1973. The first Home-Start in Scotland started work in Perth in 1984. More than 3, 500 families, which include around 6,500 children, are being supported by over 1,300 volunteers in 31 local Home-Starts and 3 satellite teams in Scotland.
