Building Roots
" The Building Roots Programme started in May 2019 and will run until April 2021.Our emphasis is on learning through experiences and discovering new places and people. The programme involves natural heritage walks and workshops with families who have recently been resettled in Edinburgh, Livingston, Fife, North Lanarkshire, Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannanshire.
The aims of the programme are to:
bring resettled families together to learn about wildlife and heritage close to where they live
use heritage learning to help newcomers to find out what's on their doorstep whilst practising English, meeting new people and exploring new places.
Our workshops are open to children and adults, and take place at a range of heritage sites within 15 miles of the areas mentioned above.Building Roots' walks and workshops offer a gentle but stimulating introduction to special wild and historic places locally. Working with Resettlement Teams and other organisations, we offer engaging natural learning activities that all family members can enjoy.
We are also in contact with and have support from several community-based partners including The Welcoming (Edinburgh), Forth Valley Welcome (Clacks), Central Scotland Regional Equality Council, West Lothian/Fife/Edinburgh/Stirling, and Clacks Councils as well as a range of smaller grassroots organisations already working with Syrian families.
