Ubuntu Women Shelter is a Glasgow-based charity that provides unconditional practical support to destitute women and people of other marginalised genders who have no recourse to public funds and insecure immigration status in Scotland.
Services include:
- Short-term accommodation
- Practical destitution support, such as arranging a lawyer, registering with a GP, and providing emergency cash grants
- Advice and information on education, health, housing, and how to demand your rights
- A weekly drop-in on Mondays from 10am to 2pm, where women can receive assistance with the system, signposting, specialist VAWG advocacy (violence against women and girls), and casework
- Specialist “by and for” Stronger than the Hostile Environment and Wellbeing training
- Emotional support and counselling
- Awareness raising, outreach, and campaigning to end the hostile environment
- A community hub that offers a Peoples’ Assembly, Make your Mark (hand and craft), and Women’s Group
- A 24-hour emergency helpline for women and girls escaping violence and subject to the NRPF condition
