Entries have opened for the Refugee Festival Scotland Media Awards 2025 are now open – and we need your nominations!
Our awards celebrate exceptional reporting on refugee and asylum issues in Scotland.
We recognise the important role that journalists play in building a wider understanding of forced migration and want to highlight responsible reporting and powerful story-telling which shines a spotlight on the issues that people seeking protection in Scotland face every day.
Organised by the Scottish Refugee Council, in partnership with the National Union of Journalists, the awards take nominations from news writing, features, TV and radio – with dedicated categories for regional and independent media outlets.
Journalists and editors are invited to enter their own work or nominate the work of colleagues.
However, we are also looking for community groups and members of the public to nominate examples of excellent journalism that covers refugee issues with fairness, accuracy and sensitivity.
The full list of categories this year are:
- Independent media: Stories, podcasts or radio published or broadcast on independent platforms.
- Written news: A written news report on a current and/or breaking story. This can be print, online or multimedia.
- Features: A written newspaper, magazine, online or multimedia piece that creatively explores refugee issues.
- Broadcast: A piece of filmed news or reporting, documentary or non-factual piece broadcast on TV or digital channels.
- Radio: This can include news reports, a full-length radio documentary or excerpts from a magazine programme.
