We’ve launched a Winter Appeal to support refugees in urgent need.
As temperatures drop, more and more people who have fled war, torture and persecution are facing homelessness this winter. Your donations could help change lives.
Please give what you can to help people who are struggling to survive.
The Home Office is hurriedly trying to clear the ‘backlog’ of asylum cases. These changes mean that people who have been granted refugee status are being given as little as seven days to leave their accommodation and find somewhere new to live.
It is an impossible situation which has been made worse by the current housing crisis.
People in the asylum system are not allowed to work while their claim is processed. As a result, most new refugees aren’t able to save money for a deposit or rent, leaving them with nowhere to go.
In Glasgow alone, up to 1,400 refugees – including families with young children – are at risk of homelessness this winter.
We are asking generous Scots to show their support for people who have come here seeking safety by making a donation and adding a message of hope to our virtual Christmas tree.
Change someone’s life this winter
- £5 could buy someone a meal and ensure they eat that day
- £10 could cover the cost of destitution support for someone facing homelessness
- £25 could provide a new refugee with advice to help them rebuild their lives
- £35 could pay for an interpreter to help someone who is still learning English
- £60 could provide emergency housing for a vulnerable refugee woman

Our CEO, Sabir Zazai said: “There are thousands of people right across Scotland looking for safety and protection in our communities.
“Because of the UK Government’s regressive and inhumane asylum policies, these people have found themselves in really difficult situations. Some are ending up in institutional forms of accommodation or ex-hotels and asked to survive on only £1.30 a day in this cost of living crisis.
“By donating to our Winter Appeal, you can send a powerful message to the UK government and show that Scotland is a welcoming place for people seeking protection.”
