Scottish Refugee Council is committed to assisting asylum seekers and refugees to settle into life in Scotland. Guardianship Scotland is jointly delivered by Scottish Refugee Council and Aberlour Child Care Trust to support unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in Scotland. The Participation team deliver activities, workshops and events to support young people to learn new skills, make friends and have their voices heard.
What will I be doing?
Duties will be varied but will include:
- Supporting the two participation officers working with unaccompanied asylum-seeking young people.
- Attend sports activities such as badminton and football.
- Encourage young people to play and join in, where appropriate.
- Possibility to support and attend other events, subject to availability.
What skills or qualities do I need?
- A strong ability to show empathy with the needs of asylum seekers and refugees.
- Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness.
- An understanding of the importance of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Ability to ensure everyone is included in the activity, has their turn playing and has fun.
- Ability to communicate with people who have varying English language skills.
- Ability to travel independently to sports venues and leisure centres.
- Energy, enthusiasm and a love of all things sport!
