Afro-Scot CIC is a community Interest company which is focused on alleviating poverty and ensuring equal treatment for people from ethnic minority origin living in Scotland. We run personal development workshops for women and girls, and organise other social activities which help them to integrate into their communities and navigate through the problems they may be encountering by living in diaspora. These include but are not limited to confidence development workshops and leadership training activities geared towards equipping female youths with confidence, leadership/good citizenship skills they need to be good ambassadors in their various communities by lending their voices to solving problems that affect them, including other contemporary social issues like climate change, discrimination etc.
Most of the youth activities include poetry competitions, debate competitions on tackling contemporary social issues and drama to help them with developing their public speaking skills, fashion shows, dance. The women activities are run as a Women development programme and centers around building their confidence through personal development workshops and equipping them with practical long life skills they need to become self-employed and other employability skills they need to get jobs. We teach women how to make jewellery and other fashion accessories and equip them with business administration and marketing skills to enable them market their products to the right market niche, including helping them set up online trading accounts with eBay, etsy, amazon, Facebook, Instagram etc.
We run a creative fashion club for children to help them develop their creative thinking skills and are in the process of launching our “Lets play together” Stage drama for children and Youths. The drama is aimed at encouraging inclusion and reducing the incidence of racism as its a drama that will cut across cultures and which promises to be entertaining and rewarding to the participants and the communities. We would like to have refugees on board to participate.
