The aim of the “HOPE ” podcast is to amplify the voices and stories of people with lived experiences of the refugee/ asylum process in Scotland.

Through interviews, discussions, and personal narratives, the podcast aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by new Scots, as well as their resilience and contributions to Scottish society.

The podcast also seeks to promote understanding and empathy among listeners and foster a sense of community and support.

This podcast was co-created by a group of radio and podcast hosts, presenters, filmmakers and storytellers with lived experience of seeking refuge, with support from our Storytelling Officer.

HOPE: Ibrahim and Peepuls

Radio presenter Ibrahim Kamara interviews James Kamara, aka Peepuls.

Peepuls is a singer, songwriter and dancer from Sierra Leone, who has recorded 4 albums. He is currently in the asylum system in the UK.

In this episode, Peepuls talks about the influences behind his music. He shares his experiences as part of a group of musicians known as Artists for Peace, preaching peace and non-violence through music. Now in the UK, he is feeling hopeful for the future.

HOPE: Anne and Ibrahim

In this episode, we have a radio presenter interviewing a radio presenter!

Ibrahim Kamara worked in the entertainment industry in Sierra Leone, and is now living in Scotland.

In this episode, Ibrahim talks about the challenges he faced getting into the industry when his family didn’t support his path, working with disadvantaged communities to improve their prospects, and his successes on radio in Sierra Leone. He also speaks about the opportunities he has had in Scotland with Radio Buena Vida and Greater Govanhill magazine.

And it was a fruitful discussion – Ibrahim will now be joining Anne on JamboRadio!
