We were delighted to be approached by Scottish Council on Archives to support their project “Voices: The Community Story,” as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022.
About Voices: The Community Story
Voices: The Community Story is an oral history project collecting stories on the theme of migration from people across Scotland. These stories will be preserved in archives for generations to come.
The project is an introduction to archiving for groups across Scotland, an opportunity to learn oral history skills and meet new people.
Involving new Scots communities
It’s really important that voices from communities we support are part of this project. We were able to connect groups across Scotland with “Voices”, including:
- GREC in Aberdeen
- The Welcoming in Edinburgh
- Yemeni Scottish Foundation in Glasgow
- Forth Valley Welcome in Stirling
Listen to the stories!
Their stories will sit on the “Voices: The Community Story” webpage alongside interviews with people across Scotland who have experienced migration, including:
- people who have migrated across the world for various reasons
- people who have migrated from the city to the islands
- people sharing the stories of their parents or grandparents
- and many more!
Our Storytelling Officer Chris joined the Steering group for the project, providing insights into best practice when supporting people with lived experience of seeking safety to share their stories.
The stories are an important snapshot of migration in Scotland in 2022.
The interviews will be available on “Voices: The Community Story” webpage. Local archives across Scotland will also store the recordings for future generations.
