The New Scots Edinburgh Steering Group is a community-based group seeking to encourage partnership and coordination between organisations and networks in supporting New Scots in their social integration in Edinburgh. We formed the steering group in 2017 and have added to our number over the past two years. A key feature of our group is the participation of New Scots in shaping decisions about events in Edinburgh. We believe in a welcoming Scotland where New Scots are able to build their lives within our communities.
Our aims are as follows:
• To enable New Scots to shape the work and priorities of the organisations represented in the steering group
• To provide a platform where New Scots can share their experiences and voice their hopes and aspirations
• To build and encourage partnership and coordination between local Edinburgh organisations with a similar vision of supporting New Scots in their integration process
• To jointly organise social and cultural events with New Scots to encourage integration in Edinburgh
• To share good practice amongst organisations represented in the steering group
• To identify gaps in the provision of support to particular groups (such as people with no recourse to public funds).
