Ikea Give Twice Christmas 2014
Scottish Refugee Council and Ikea Glasgow staff

Blog post by Kirsty White, Trust and Supporters Officer at Scottish Refugee Council

Whether you braved side stitches and shin splints to take part in our Run for Refugees challenge, donated a soft toy to refugee children through Ikea Glasgow’s Give Twice Christmas appeal, supported our Celtic FC Christmas Appeal, donated vouchers through your Rotary Club, or gave a single or regular donation in 2014, your generosity made all the difference. Thank you.

We’d also like to thank Celtic FC Foundation, Ikea Glasgow and Rotary District 1020 for their support in 2014. Celtic FC Foundation chose Scottish Refugee Council to benefit from its Christmas Appeal helping families face their first Christmas in Scotland with dignity, with its generous donors raising £3,000 to support the families we work with.

Our team were also overwhelmed when they arrived at Ikea Glasgow to find more than 700 soft toys donated by customers as part of Ikea’s Give Twice appeal. The refugee  children we work with were delighted to have “something of their own” and lots of fun was had opening their toys this winter.

Rotary District 1020 generously supported us with high street store vouchers for refugees, which has helped some of our most vulnerable clients this winter.

In 2015 we are celebrating 30 years of working with refugees in Scotland, so keep your eye on our website and on social media for news of our special 30th anniversary events and ways to continue supporting our work with refugees.

We’d also love to hear from people who are organising their own event or doing a challenge to raise funds for us in 2015. If you would like to discuss an event or idea for fundraising we’d be happy to help. Please contact our fundraising team on 0141 248 9799 or email funding@scottishrefugeecouncil.org.uk.
