ProtectionAppeal 2011
Help refugees get the protection they need

We’re delighted to announce the launch of our Protection Appeal today, 25 November.  We are standing up for the genuine protection of asylum seekers and refugees, and we want to put a stop the inhumane policy that leaves them on the streets alone, with nothing.  We hope you will join us!

Forced to flee – forced into homelessness

I recently heard about Joseph who came here from Sierra Leone after being forced to flee for his life.  He came to the UK for protection.  Instead he was forced onto cold streets in winter, desperate for help.  Shockingly his story is just one of many we hear – over a quarter of the people we see each day are destitute.  That’s why our Protection Appeal is so important.

The vital funds raised by our Protection Appeal allows us to continue to support people at all stages of the asylum process and to even try to helping them before they’re forced onto the streets.  Importantly it also helps us to be able to campaign to change the laws and the inhumane UK asylum system that makes people destitute.

Donate, fundraise, get involved! Lots of ways to give.

There are a number of ways you can get involved and help raise money for the protection of refugees.  Take a look at our ways of giving for inspiration.

Here at Scottish Refugee Council we’ve already been busy raising money towards the Protection Appeal.  On 17 November we held our very own Pot Luck Lunch where our fantastic staff and volunteers donated what they would have spent on lunch to the Appeal.  Not only did we raise money but we discovered that we have a few hidden chefs.

And our very own Chief Executive, John Wilkes will be raising some laughs and money when he dresses up as Santa – but only if we raise £600!   Find out more and donate on our virgin money giving page. Or why not get your boss to agree to do something unusual to raise money for our Protection Appeal.  You could even tie this in with Human Rights Day on 10 December.

Share what you’re doing!

Whatever you do and whatever the date, we would love to hear from you – so please send us your pictures, videos or share socially via our Twitter (@scotrefcouncil) and Facebook page.  And spread the word!

Donate by text

Too busy to organise your own fundraiser, then donate to our Protection Appeal by text.   It’s really easy to do.  Simply text SRCD11£5 to 70070.  It’s free to you and all the money goes directly to us.

I hope you’ll join us in our Protection Appeal as we stand up for the much needed protection of refugees.
