Looking into the future
They stand on the wall, some looking down and some looking into the deepness of future – the same as falling leaves waiting for an opening.
Human rights and wrongs commissioned by Freedom from Torture is a photo exhibition held at The Bridge in Easterhouse.
Powerful images, real stories
Artist and photographer Angela Catlin and journalist Billy Briggs, who provide the images and text, were commissioned by Freedom from Torture, based in Glasgow, to work with survivors of torture from different countries who have claimed asylum in UK.
The photos show the cruelty that destroys lives. Beside each photo taken by Angela Catlin are three photos taken by the subject reflecting their dreams, ambitions, feeling of past and present.
I attended the exhibition on Thursday 23 June with several other invited guests. After the showing we were invited to hear several speakers, including Norma Mckinnon who spoke about Freedom from Torture’s work before handing over to Billy Briggs who shared his experiences working with survivors of torture based in Glasgow, and creating the exhibition.
See this exhibition – on till 30 June
The exhibition is on at the Platform in Glasgow until 30 June and is well worth a visit!
