Not just refugees….

When we were first asked to make a film for Refugee Week we all groaned. Not again, we are more than refugees! Anna, our dance teacher, came in one Tuesday before our class started and asked us if we had any places we wanted to film or anywhere that meant something to us.

A film about us as people

We began to think of places; Levont suggested the tree in the park where we all meet up to practise in the summer and TJ said he wanted to film at one of the new bridges on the Clyde because he thought it was a really modern part of Glasgow. Being able to take control of the film got us excited, realisation hit that this film was about us as people, not as refugees.

Living and breathing dancing

Anna let us have a lot of input in the choreography, watching the moves we could do and making them fit within the routine. Now, we’re all really looking forward to the film showing at Refugee Week Scotland and can’t wait to perform at the Tron in front of an audience, it’s what we do best.

Dancing is a big part of all of our lives, we live and breathe it. It’s so good that YDance has brought us all together and given us so many opportunities. I don’t think I’ll ever stop dancing, it makes me so happy.
