Refugee Week Scotland 2011

And we’re off and running!

Welcome to our Refugee Week Scotland blog – with only 35 days to go, preparations are in full flow and there’s great buzz about the festival this year with over 110 events planned.  Rehearsals are taking place, poetry is being written and football training is kicking off!

Importantly, even in difficult times people have committed their passion and energy to creating new work and arranging events for an even more eclectic Refugee Week.

Celebrating courage and the Convention

Courage, the theme of this year’s Refugee Week, has inspired numerous wonderful exhibitions and impressive performances.   As we mark the 60th anniversary of the UN Refugee Convention, we recognise the bravery shown by those who flee their homes to seek sanctuary in Scotland and the importance of upholding the Convention.

Hear it here first!

The Refugee Week brochure will be arriving next week; it outlines all the events taking place, but continue to check our blog if you want to hear news first and even learn some of the backstage secrets and see rehearsal footage. Upcoming blogs will share thoughts and insight from those writing plays, performing in the shows and organising events.

We want to hear from you – get involved in our blog!

This is also your chance to contribute to Refugee Week and let us know what’s going on, how you’ll be involved, thoughts on shows you’ve seen or been involved with and much, much more!

Our blog series last year, It’s All About the Journey, was a wonderful and honest account from people performing in shows, watching shows and following us online!

Let us know how you’ll be celebrating Refugee Week!  Inspired by this year’s theme, how have you displayed courage in your life, whether it’s the small every day decisions or a large life changing moment.  Share with us!

Send your thoughts and experiences to us by email so they can be shared on our blog!

I look forward to reading your about your experiences and finding out about what’s happening in the run up to Refugee Week Scotland 2011.
