Following the success of last year’s Refugee Week Scotland Simple Acts meetings through GLOW, we’re creating a new programme of fun and educational projects for pupils across Scotland that will run throughout May.
Through a series of simple actions, you can learn more about refugees via GLOW – an online educational community for Scottish schools.

Simple Acts meets will run live on Education Scotland’s GLOW portal and we’re inviting all Scottish schools to take part.

Live GLOW Meet: Wednesday 9th May, 11am -12pm
Based on this year’s theme of Refugee Week Scotland Spirit. Submit your photos and videos that capture what spirit means to you. Check out the Spirit website for inspiration and find out how to submit.

Simple Act: Learn about a Refugee’s Experience
GLOW Meet: Wednesday 16 May, 11am -12pm
See photographs from the Life after Iraq exhibition by photojournalist Angela Caitlin and writer Billy Bragg –who travelled to Syria in 2008 to see what life was like for Iraqi refugees living there.
Share your thoughts and write a review of this exhibition. We’ll share the best ones on our website. You can also design a poster to encourage people to welcome asylum seekers and refugees into their communities. Suitable for P6+.
Simple Act: Cook a Dish from another country
GLOW Meet: Wednesday 23 May, 11am-12pm
Do you love cooking and trying out new dishes? Cook along live with us. Learn how to cook a tasty treat and find out more about the country where the dish comes from.
Simple Act: Photographic Project
Glow Meet: Wednesday 30 May, 11am -12pm
Another chance to get involved with the Spirit photographic project. Share your photos, videos, interviews with the GLOW meet participants and discuss the project.
