Celebrating Refugee Week Scotland

The Refugee Week Parliamentary Reception in Edinburgh is a very special occasion; it allows Scottish Refugee Council, Refugee Community Organisations and others to come together to celebrate Refugee Week, its events and accomplishments.

The event was hosted by Christina McKelvie, MSP for Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, who started the celebrations by warmly welcoming everyone to the Parliament.   Ms McKelvie is proud to be involved in the event and recognises it as an important one in the Parliamentary calendar.  She strongly believes that people seeking sanctuary should be given sanctuary – and her dedication and support is greatly appreciated by Scottish Refugee Council.

Courage can bring about social change

During the celebrations I had the opportunity to speak with Ms McKelvie and ask for her views about courage.   She related that courage can be a very personal thing but also includes the courage of a nation to offer safety to those seeking asylum. Importantly courage can bring about change.
