Here We Stay brings together people in the Gorbals and surrounding areas.

How exciting!  We’re embarking on a creative journey with the Citizens Theatre to deliver a ‘Community Oratorio’ this autumn.  And just what exactly does this mean?

We’ll be celebrating the rich and diverse lives and stories of the Gorbals community in a music and theatre extravaganza. Participants will form a global community chorus, sharing stories of their lives through song, spoken word and live music.

Most importantly, asylum-seekers, refugees and local residents from the Gorbals and surrounding areas will create the piece from scratch with the help of experienced Composer / Musical Director Matthew Brown and directors Elly Goodman and Neil Packham from the Citizens Theatre.

Get Involved – a call to the Citizens!

Regardless of whether you have refugee status or are still going through the asylum process, you can get involved!

Our first drop-in taster workshop in July was fantastic fun.  Missed it?  Don’t worry, you can still come along to our next taster workshop to find out about the project, meet the team and get involved.  Lunch is provided and your bus travel will be covered.

Join us on 16 August from 11.30am – 2pm at the Citizens Theatre, 119 Gorbals Street.  Interested?  Email me or call on 0141 223 7939

Interested in film?

If theatre and music is not your thing –  then how about working with renowned film production company Urbancroft to help create a documentary film of our project.

First in a lifetime

We could not be more excited about this project. It offers a first in a lifetime opportunity for people from eclectic backgrounds to perform on stage, share their stories or even create a film.  And it’s also a first for Scottish Refugee Council to work with a high calibre creative partner like the Citizens Theatre to deliver a unique project like this.

Take in a show or two

Come and see the finished show 15 – 17 November in the Circle Studio at the Citizens Theatre. Tickets are free but limited, so book yours now.

Why not make a night of it and take in Glasgow Girls the Musical, based on the true story of the inspirational ‘Glasgow Girls’ from Drumchapel High School and the powerful asylum campaign they drove to gain media attention and motivate a community to unite behind its residents, the same night.

We look forward to seeing you there!
