Sovay Fitzpatrick is our first donor through Giveacar, a scheme that raises cash for charities through scrap cars.

Sovay decided it was time to part with her much-loved silver Renault Clio and saw an opportunity to use Giveacar to do this – saving her time and effort, and giving her a chance to make a generous donation to Scottish Refugee Council.

Practical

A wedding present from her parents, her Clio had taken her family on many travels around Scotland – and beyond! But after some years, as they needed a different car for life with their son, she decided to look for a method of disposing of the car and was glad that this could also contribute to Scottish Refugee Council.

Sovay told me that she hadn’t been able to do anything else for our charity although it was one she felt was deserving – but this was something easy and practical she could do.

Easy and quick

Describing the Giveacar process Sovay said: “It couldn’t have been more simple. It was one call and one meeting. Giveacar were very reliable and very quick”. Giveacar called to arrange the pickup, then came to Sovay’s house with a transporter and she gave them her keys to her car. Giveacar took the car, decided if it was best to auction or scrap it, made the arrangements, and then donated the profits to Scottish Refugee Council.

Sovay explained that she had been thinking about doing this for a while after a web search on Giveacar site and Scottish Refugee Council explained the scheme. She felt it was a combination of doing something useful with her car and making a donation to Scottish Refugee Council. Sovay said “I’m glad I did it”.
