Running – just one of many ways to fundraise.

I’m always impressed by the many different ways people raise awareness and money for Scottish Refugee Council – just recently Vickie ambitiously ran 7 10Ks in 7 days to raise money for our refugee week walking tours.  Impressive!

Looking for inspiration?

Here’s a few ways that you can fundraise, donate and make a difference in the lives of refugees and people seeking asylum in Scotland:

Give a gift that just keeps living

Tired of receiving another pair of socks or pretending to grin with excitement when you open another of your Auntie’s legendary knitted jumpers?

Ask family and friends to give a donation instead of a present. Their gift will prove much more useful and will outlive any unfortunate present!

Change of lifestyle

Giving something up does not have to be restricted to post-New Year or Lent, why not set yourself a personal challenge to give up smoking or not to give in to those chocolate cravings. You can then choose to donate some or all of the money you save. Watch Trish and Belinda’s video for inspiration.

Sporting challenge

If you are feeling sporty, why not join one of the many planned running events taking place this summer and ask people to sponsor you. We have a fundraising pack to get you started (see related resources). Alternatively, take the guilt out of being a couch potato and sponsor someone – it will make you feel so much better.

Put your skills to the test

Watch out for upcoming competitions on Facebook and Twitter, where you can put your fundraising skills to the test, raise awareness and money –  and even get a chance to win Refugee Week related prizes!

Share your fun – draising story with others

We’d love to hear how you decide to raise money. Writing a blog for our website is a good way to let people know what you’re doing –  you could even pop into the office and record a short one-minute video explaining what targets you have set yourself.

Facebook and Twitter are also great ways to promote what you’re doing, interact and encourage others to support you.
