Refugee Week

This time next week, Refugee Week Scotland will be in full swing. I’ve been exploring the RWS programme to see how many of the 100 plus events I can squeeze in during the week.

Check out the fantastic programme to see the many events on offer – from arts, theatre, sport, community celebrations and more – truly something for everyone.

Fill your musical boots during Refugee Week Scotland

I’ve already got my tickets to see the fabulous King Creosote and friends at the Refugee Week Scotland opening concert next Monday 18 June. This is a first for Refugee Week Scotland and is sure to be a fantastic night of music and celebration.  If you don’t want to miss out, get your tickets quick.

If you can’t make this, then you can always attend the free acoustic gig happening on Saturday 16 June at 2pm, on the steps of Glasgow Royal Concert Hall (at the top of Buchannan Street) featuring; world music community choir Voice Beat; Acoustic/folk artist, Gav Prentice;  and The Scruffers.

I can’t wait to see Glasgow Girls, the musical, at The Tron (Tuesday 19 & Wednesday 20 June, 7:45pm) – will no doubt be a popular show so book your tickets early.

Lots of Laughs to be had at comedy events

The British Red Cross comedy night has already sold out so don’t miss out on the other comedy nights. Make sure you get along to Wasasa Comedy Refugee Week Special on Saturday 7 July at Calabash Restaurant 8 – 11pm. This promises to be an imaginative and fearless night of comedy.

I’m  also going to the Seeds of thought Cabaret at the Victorian Bar in The Tron (Saturday 23 June, 9pm).  It’s free but ticketed so make sure you book tickets from the box office on 0141 552 4267.

Roll into Refugee Week and support a great cause

I’ve got to mention the 80’s Roller Disco, as this is sure to be a laughter-filled night of fun – and is a great way to support the Refugee Week Fundraising Appeal . Book your spot and your skates for Friday 15 June.

Join in the fun in the lead up to Refugee Week Scotland

As well as the Roller Disco fundraiser, take part in the online fun. If you spot a Refugee Week Scotland poster strike a pose and send us your picture! Tweet it to us using the tag #rwpose; post it on our Facebook page; or email it to us. Today’s the last day picture pose before we announce the lucky winner of our Refugee Week t-shirt.

On Twitter?  Tell us what spirit means to you

Also take part in Refugee Week Scotland’s Tweet-story-Competition. Tweet what spirit means to you in 140 characters – spirit of Scotland, community, perseverance or anything else – tag #rwspirit for your chance to win a fantastic refugee week t-shirt.

Enjoy the celebrations – and hope to see you at some of the events.
