Don’t worry if you haven’t made it to a Refugee Festival Scotland event yet, there is still time! This weekend is packed with food, music, sport and community celebrations.
Here is a quick round up of some of the exciting RFS17 events happening this weekend.
Friday 30 June
Music
Migrant Help and Refuweegee are hosting an open mic night of music, dance and spoken word. With drums, choirs and ukuleles already confirmed it’s destined to be a great night!

Saturday 1 July
Food
A traditional Huntly coffee morning with a twist. Deveron Projects are working with the New Scots Syrian community in Aberdeenshire to cook and share some Middle Eastern treats and introduce some delicious new cuisine to the locals.
9am – 1pm, Huntly Hotel, Aberdeenshire
Community Event
Share My Table is a multi-artform project led by the Scottish Refugee Council and Tramway that brings together people, food and conversation. This event is about opening up the project to the public and sharing some of the work we’ve made. There will be food, conversation and interactive creative activities. You can come for the whole event or drop in.
10.30am – 3.30pm, Tramway, Glasgow
Storytelling
Join Amnesty International to celebrate freedom of expression and hear powerful poetry and moving prose from people who have been persecuted for sharing ideas on the page. Creative writings read by former refugees who have endured suffering but have finally found sanctuary.
3pm – 4pm, Hillhead Library, Glasgow
Dance
A special ceilidh to celebrate the many people, places and organisations that make Edinburgh a welcoming city for people seeking sanctuary. A family-friendly evening with shared food, dancing and music.
5pm – 11pm, King’s Hall, Edinburgh
Film
Camcorder Gorillas and Asylum Seeker Housing launch their new film and research on Women Asylum Seeker Housing in the East End of Glasgow. The screening will be followed by discussion, music and refreshments.
5pm – 8.30pm, CCA, Glasgow
Sunday 2 July
Exhibition
A New Life in Scotland. Connect with the inspiring and moving story of the refugees who fled to Scotland from Nazi Europe during the 1930s and after the Second World War.
2pm – 4pm, Scottish Jewish Archives Centre, Garnethill Synagogue, Glasgow
Sports & Outdoors
Join Interfaith to walk the well-worn paths of the ancient and spiritual mountain of Ben Ledi. This 10km walk will take in sights including Rock of Embers and a panoramic view of the Highlands, and will be themed around sanctuary and refugees.
10.30am – 6.30pm, Callandar
Refugee Connections Football Tournament. Bringing local and refugee communities together. Join Scottish Unity Football League for a 7-aside football tournament with 16 teams from a variety of community groups. There will be a trophy, medals and refreshments!
12pm – 5pm, Toryglen Football Centre, Glasgow
