Maryhill Integration Network perform at Refugee Week

From performing in community halls to appearing on the small screen, Maryhill Integration Network has come a long way. Their Music and Theatre Production Project will be part of Dannsa, to be shown on BBC Alba later in the year.

Dannsa, Gaelic for dance, will showcase a fusion of contemporary and traditional dance styles.

Here I am

Maryhill Integration Network is one of six vibrant Scottish dance groups to feature on the show, which will follow the highs and lows of the dancing scene through the eyes of the groups. The programme will follow the development of Maryhill Integration Network’s new dance piece ‘Here I Am’.

‘Here I Am’ is the seventh collaborative production between the Music and Theatre Production Project and Natasha Gilmore of Barrowland Ballet.  A cast of adults and children from asylum seeker, refugee and migrant backgrounds and local communities perform alongside professional dancers and musicians.

Refugee Week involvement

Maryhill Integration Network has been involved in Refuge Week Scotland since its early days and they are now an annual feature at the Tron Theatre. Each year they create a new piece of dance theatre to reflect the spirit of Refugee Week. Courage is the theme for 2011, and ‘Here I Am’ reflects the courage people need to move forward and rebuild their lives.

Tramway

The featured dance groups will be showcased at the Tramway on 19th February.

Tickets for the Tramway show can be bought via mneTV, on 0141 300 3800
