Mercury nominated King Creosote will perform at Refugee Week Scotland’s opening concert.

There is a real buzz of excitement at Scottish Refugee Council this week and it’s not just the sunshine giving us all big smiles. The programme for Refugee Week Scotland has just been launched and I for one can’t wait for all the upcoming events.

First up is the roller disco! It has been a good few years since I sported a pair of roller skates so here’s hoping it’s just like riding a bike!

Get your skates on – fun-raiser

What a fantastic way to spend a Friday night with friends and support Scottish Refugee Council’s fundraising fun-raiser.

Join us on Friday 15 June 6pm-10pm at Jumpin Jaks, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow, for a night of roller skating fun. Tickets are £10 and this includes your wheels (roller skates) and safety gear.

As well as the ‘roller-discoing’, there will be:

  • a licensed bar (for those in need of some Dutch courage)
  • hotdogs
  • and a raffle

13 year olds and over can attend if accompanied by an adult.

Book your spot and stay up-to-date about the event on Facebook and don’t miss out, book your place here!

Roller skates not your thing? Check one of 100+ other exciting events!

Check out the Refugee Week Scotland programme – it’s absolutely bursting with events coming up across Scotland including music, film, art, theatre, literature, exhibitions and community fun!

Refugee Week Scotland Opening Concert

I am really looking forward to the opening concert on Monday 18 June, Old Fruitmarket, Candleriggs, Glasgow.  This is a first for Refugee Week Scotland and the headliner is the incredibly talented King Creosote and supporting him are The Pictish Trail and Glasgow’s own Randolph’s Leap.

I’ve got my tickets – have you got yours?  Don’t delay –  get yours from the box office: 0141 353 8000 or online.

Launch of Spirit photography exhibition

I am also excited for the much anticipated launch of Spirit exhibition – the phototgraphy project for Refugee Week Scotland.  Back in April, Becky blogged about the project, celebrating refugees in Scotland through photographs and film – it will be fantastic to see the finished exhibition launched on 8 of June at Trongate 103.

With an electic and an exciting selection of things to do, Refugee Week Scotland is certainly not to be missed.  Hope to see you there.
